Introduction

AI Item Intelligence by Data Courage monitors, analyzes, and identifies sales opportunities and risks within your product catalog.

The solution groups items with similar sales performance and behavior into intelligent, KPI-driven categories. Each group reflects actionable patterns in inventory, sales velocity, and promotional performance.


Installation

AI Item Intelligence is available via Microsoft AppSource and Business Central's Extension Management.

Steps:

  1. Search for AI Item Intelligence

  2. Click Get it Now

  3. Confirm your Microsoft credentials

  4. Select your language and country

  5. Wait ~1 minute for installation to complete

  6. Start using the app!

A valid Data Courage subscription is required to activate the extension.

Make sure the Business Central role has permission to the following objects:

  • Customer

  • User Task

  • Tile Management

  • Tiles Settings


Getting Started

The app includes built-in tooltips and fact boxes, as well as item-level insights. Below is an explanation of key terms.

KPI Dictionary – Group Indicators

The solution includes 24 indicators, each representing a different insight into item sales and health.

Clear it out! Declining sales + promotions + surplus inventory
Time to promote! Important items with sales drop but no promos
Revamp your promo! Key items with falling sales despite promotions

Item Groups

Groups are automatically generated based on performance similarities across KPIs. Items within the same group exhibit comparable behavior, enabling focused action per category.


Using the App

Start and End

Navigate to the Item Intelligence tab under Actions, where three core functions are available:

Item Intelligence Setup

Define classification settings such as:

  • Period Length: e.g., -7D for the last 7 days, -3M for 3 months

  • Frequency of refresh

Item Intelligence Groups

Import group definitions via CSV:

  • Click Actions > Import > Group Definition Import > OK > Choose

  • Select the .csv file provided and upload

Item Intelligence Data Upload

Initiates the algorithm. It adheres to your defined scheduler and refresh rules.


Selecting Groups and Filters

The Home Page presents up to 24 Group Indicators as interactive tiles (tiles with no items are hidden if the "Hide Empty Groups" option is active).


Item Details and History

Clicking a tile opens a detailed view for that group. Data presented may include:

  • Item No.

  • Item Description

  • Current Stock

  • First Sales Date

  • Last Sales Date

  • Sales Amount (in period)

Tabs and fields vary based on data availability in Business Central.
